Family Matters Pt. 3: Give Thanks

1Chronicles 16:7-13 NLT - 7 On that day David gave to Asaph and his fellow Levites this song of thanksgiving to the LORD: 8 Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. 9 Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. 10 Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD. 11 Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. 12 Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, 13 you children of his servant Israel, you descendants of Jacob, his chosen ones.

1. Oh, Give Thanks!

Psalms 105:1-6 ESV - 1 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! 4 Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! 5 Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, 6 O offspring of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

• Why is it easier to groan then to give thanks?

Psalms 34:1-3 ESV - 1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

• At ALL TIMES!

Psalms 150:1-6 ESV - 1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

■ Give thanks to Him anyhow!

Hebrews 13:5-6 NLT - 5 Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never abandon you." 6 So we can say with confidence, "The LORD is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?"

• Know that He is going to do it!

• We must have it His way.

Isaiah 40:31 NLT - 31 But those who trust/wait in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Galatians 6:9 NLT - 9 So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV - 1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

• Seasons will come and seasons will go.

Ecclesiastes 3:11-12 ESV - 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live.
