1Thessalonians 5:14-22 CSB - 14 And we exhort you, brothers and sisters: warn those who are idle (lazy), comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 See to it that no one repays evil for evil to anyone but always pursue what is good for one another and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray constantly, 18 give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Don't stifle the Spirit. 20 Don't despise prophecies, 21 but test all things. Hold on to what is good. 22 Stay away from every kind of evil.
Basic Instructions
- Lazy/Idle
- Discouraged
- Weak
• Be Patient with Everyone!
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 CSB - 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray constantly, 18 give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
• Cultivating a Spirit of Thankfulness.
- Rejoice Always!
Why is it important to rejoice always?
■ Rejoicing/Praise is a key component to prayer.
Psalm 107:1 NKJV - 1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for [He is] good! For His mercy [endures] forever.
Continuous Awareness of God’s Presence
- “Pray without Ceasing” – KJV
Psalm 34:1 ESV - 1 I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psalm 150:6 ESV - 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!
• A Mindset of Dependence.
- How is your posture?
James 5:16-17 NKJV - 16 Confess [your] trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
