Mark 2:1-5 – “When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread
quickly that he was back home. Soon the house where he was staying was so packed
with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was
preaching God’s word to them, four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat.
They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the
roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of
Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are
forgiven.”
I.) Having The Name, But Missing The Nature
Instead of viewing service as a privilege, we treat it like a pedestal.
Why do we preach humility but live in hubris?
Matthew 23:6-7 “And they love to sit at the head table at banquets and in
the seats of honor in the synagogues. They love to receive respectful
greetings as they walk in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi’.”
Jehoiakim Jehoiachin – “Yahweh raises up” or “Yahweh will establish”
Mattaniah/Zedekiah – “The Lord’s gift” & “The Lord’s righteousness”
You can be established by the Lord and not be established in the Lord. You can
carry God’s gifts and righteousness, and still not be transformed.
2Timothy 3:5- “They will act religious, but they will reject the power that
could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!”
II.) The Power Of A Nobody
Everybody that’s a somebody started out as a nobody.
Zechariah 4:10 – “Do not despise the day of small beginnings, for the Lord
rejoices to see the work begin, see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”
You don’t have to have a name to lead someone to Jesus!
Romans 12:1 – “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give
your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living
and holy sacrifice – the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to
worship him.”
