< Back A Genuine Move of God Nathan Brosher Aug 16, 2026 Psalm 51:1-7, 10-13, 17 NLT - 1 Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. 2 Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. 3 For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night. 4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just. 5 For I was born a sinner--yes, from the moment my mother conceived me. 6 But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there. 7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. ... 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. 11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you. 13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you. ... 17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. 1. Deep Repentance Repentant/Contrite - dāḵâ - To crush, be crushed, be broken of divine wrath. Acts 3:19-20 NLT - 19 Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. 20 Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. Repent - metanoeō - to change one’s mind, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins. 2. Conversions and Transformed Lives Act 9:1-2 NLT - 1 Meanwhile, Saul was uttering threats with every breath and was eager to kill the Lord's followers. So he went to the high priest. 2 He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them--both men and women--back to Jerusalem in chains. Are we an enemy of God? Acts 9:17-22 NLT - 17 So Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18 Instantly something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized. 19 Afterward he ate some food and regained his strength. Saul stayed with the believers in Damascus for a few days. 20 And immediately he began preaching about Jesus in the synagogues, saying, "He is indeed the Son of God!" 21 All who heard him were amazed. "Isn't this the same man who caused such devastation among Jesus' followers in Jerusalem?" they asked. "And didn't he come here to arrest them and take them in chains to the leading priests?" 22 Saul's preaching became more and more powerful, and the Jews in Damascus couldn't refute his proofs that Jesus was indeed the Messiah. Romans 12:1-2 NLT - 1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. A.W Tozer: “If your Christian conversion did not reverse the direction of your life, if it did not transform it, then you are not converted at all. You are simply a victim of the ‘accept Jesus’ heresy!” 3. A Burden for Prayer and Mission Luke 22:31-34 NLT - 31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. 32 But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers." 33 Peter said, "Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you." 34 But Jesus said, "Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me." Do we have a burden for prayer and mission? Previous Next

Nathan Brosher Aug 9, 2026 Psalm 37:23-26 NKJV - 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. 24 Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand. 25 I have been young and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful and lends; And his descendants are blessed. 1. God Orders Steps, Not Entire Journeys Faith rarely receives the blueprint. Genesis 6:22 NKJV - 22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did. Genesis 12:1 NKJV - 1 Now the LORD had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, To a land that I will show you. Exodus 3:12 NKJV - 12 So He said, "I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: Matthew 14:29 NKJV - 29 So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 2. God’s Faithfulness is Proven Over Time Verse 25: I have been young and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread. 3. Blessing Always Flows Beyond Us Verse 26: He is ever merciful and lends; And his descendants are blessed. Faith is never just about us; it’s about future generations. • Fragrance of Worship | Bridgeway

< Back Fragrance of Worship Nathan Brosher Aug 2, 2026 Matthew 26:6-13 NLT - 6 Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. 7 While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head. 8 The disciples were indignant when they saw this. "What a waste!" they said. 9 "It could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor." 10 But Jesus, aware of this, replied, "Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me? 11 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me. 12 She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. 13 I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman's deed will be remembered and discussed. " A Fragrance 2Corinthians 2:15 ESV - 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 1. The Container: What Are You Holding? Verse 7: While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume. Will you break what you have been protecting? 2. The Action: Worship Will Always Face Criticism Verse 8: The disciples were indignant when they saw this. "What a waste!" Worship always risks misunderstanding, criticism, embarrassment, looking emotional or even looking foolish. 2Samuel 6:22 NLT - 22 Yes, and I am willing to look even more foolish than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes! But those servant girls you mentioned will indeed think I am distinguished!" Real worship isn’t performed for spectators; it’s poured out before the Savior. 3. The Cost: Worship That Costs Nothing Is Worth Very Little. John 12:5 ESV - 5 "Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" 2Samuel 24:24-25 NLT - 24 But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the LORD my God that have cost me nothing ." So, David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen. 25 David built an altar there to the LORD and sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings. And the LORD answered his prayer for the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped. Worship will cost you! 4. The Breaking God often releases our greatest worship through our greatest breaking. Psalms 51:16-17 NLT - 16 You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. 17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. Brokenness is not weakness; it is the doorway through which worship flows. Previous Next

  • The Gifts of Tongues | Bridgeway

< Back The Gifts of Tongues Nathan Brosher Jul 29, 2026 1Corinthians 14:1-5 NLT - 1 Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives--especially the ability to prophesy. 2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won't be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. 3 But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them. 4 A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally, but one who speaks a word of prophecy strengthens the entire church. 5 I wish you could all speak in tongues, but even more I wish you could all prophesy. For prophecy is greater than speaking in tongues, unless someone interprets what you are saying so that the whole church will be strengthened. Love - Agape - affection, good will, kindness and generosity. Prophesy - Propheteuo - speak under inspiration, declare a thing which can only be known by divine revelation Known Language, Public Tongues, Private Prayer Language 1Corinthians 14:6-14 NLT - 6 Dear brothers and sisters, if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language, how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful. 7 Even lifeless instruments like the flute or the harp must play the notes clearly, or no one will recognize the melody. 8 And if the bugler doesn't sound a clear call, how will the soldiers know they are being called to battle? 9 It's the same for you. If you speak to people in words they don't understand, how will they know what you are saying? You might as well be talking into empty space. 10 There are many different languages in the world, and every language has meaning. 11 But if I don't understand a language, I will be a foreigner to someone who speaks it, and the one who speaks it will be a foreigner to me. 12 And the same is true for you. Since you are so eager to have the special abilities the Spirit gives, seek those that will strengthen the whole church. 13 So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said. 14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don't understand what I am saying. Romans 8:16 NLT - 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. Romans 8:26-27 NLT - 26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. Jude 1:20 NLT - 20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, The emphasis is on dependence upon the Spirit. 1Corinthians 14:15-17 NLT - 15 Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit, and I will also sing in words I understand. 16 For if you praise God only in the spirit, how can those who don't understand you praise God along with you? How can they join you in giving thanks when they don't understand what you are saying? 17 You will be giving thanks very well, but it won't strengthen the people who hear you. 1Corinthians 14:18-19 NLT - 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you. 19 But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language. 1Corinthians 14:20-22 NLT - 20 Dear brothers and sisters, don't be childish in your understanding of these things. Be innocent as babies when it comes to evil but be mature in understanding matters of this kind. 21 It is written in the Scriptures: "I will speak to my own people through strange languages and through the lips of foreigners. But even then, they will not listen to me," says the LORD. Do not be children in your thinking/understanding. Matthew 10:16 NKJV - 16 " Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves . We must be wise enough to recognize evil but not experienced in practicing it. Romans 16:19 NKJV - 19 For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore, I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. 1Corinthians 14:22-25 NLT - 22 So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers. 23 Even so, if unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy. 24 But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin and judged by what you say. 25 As they listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to their knees and worship God, declaring, "God is truly here among you." Sign - Semeion - a sign, marker, or evidence that points to something. Previous Next

  • Are We Ready? | Bridgeway

< Back Are We Ready? Isaiah Brosher Jul 22, 2026 1Corinthians 3:6-9 NLT 6 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. 7 It's not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What's important is that God makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work. 9 For we are both God's workers. And you are God's field. You are God's building. 1. Will you be there in the valley? It is easy to stay with people who are on the mountain top. Ministry happens in the valley! Mark 9:2-7 ESV 2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. 5 And Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." 6 For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him." He revealed his glory so you would take it to the broken places. 2. Are we adding fuel or pouring water on the fire? God never intended transformation to happen alone. proskarteréō means "to continue to do something with intense effort Ephesians 4:16 NLT 16 He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Previous Next

< Back Change is Coming Nathan Brosher Jul 26, 2026 1Kings 18:41-46 NKJV - 41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain." 42 So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, 43 and said to his servant, "Go up now, look toward the sea." So, he went up and looked, and said, "There is nothing." And seven times he said, "Go again." 44 Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, "There is a cloud, as small as a man's hand, rising out of the sea!" So he said, "Go up, say to Ahab, 'Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.' " 45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. 46 Then the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. 1. The Season Before the Change The physical drought reflected the spiritual condition. Amos 8:11 NLT - 11 "The time is surely coming," says the Sovereign LORD, "when I will send a famine on the land--not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the LORD. 2. He Changed the Altar 1Kings 18:30 NLT - 30 Then Elijah called to the people, "Come over here!" They all crowded around him as he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been torn down. God had to restore worship before He restored blessing! Galatians 5:24 NLT - 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 3. Change Begins with a Decision 1Kings 18:21 NKJV - 21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word. God demanded a choice to Israel, and he demands a choice to us. Act 3:19-20 NLT - 19 Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. 20 Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. 4. The Rain Started Small James 5:16-18 ESV - 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. Zechariah 4:10 NLT - 10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin. 1Kings 18:41 NKJV - 41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain." 5. Pray Until Heaven Responds God’s promises don’t eliminate prayer, they inspire prayer! Joel 2:28-29 NLT - 28 "Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. 29 In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants--men and women alike. < Back Anointed for the Body Nathan Brosher Jul 19, 2026 Isaiah 61:1-2 NLT - 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. 2 He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the LORD's favor has come, and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies. 1. The Origin of the Anointing Anointed - māšaḥ - Hebrew - to smear, spread as liquid which always refers to the literal act of applying oil to someone or something that God has chosen. 2. The Anointing has changed under the New Covenant John 14:17 NLT - 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn't looking for him and doesn't recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you . Luke 4:16-21 NLT - 16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. 17 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: 18 "The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the LORD's favor has come." 20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. 21 Then he began to speak to them. "The Scripture you've just heard has been fulfilled this very day! " 2Corinthians 1:21-22 ESV - 21 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, 22 and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. Anointed - chriō - Greek - enduing Christians with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Act 10:38 NLT - 38 And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 1Corinthians 12:7 ESV - 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. Ephesians 4:11-13 NLT - 11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. The healthiest churches in the world are those where the whole body ministers. 3. Anointing Flows Through Unity Psalms 133:1-2 ESV - 1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! · Division will try to interrupt fellowship The greatest tragedy isn’t having fewer resources; it’s having activity without anointing! Your past does not define you! Proverbs 18:21 ESV 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Psalms 103:12 ESV 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. Romans 8:1-2 ESV 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. We must be the reflection of Jesus 1 John 2:6 NLT 6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. Matthew 15:7-9 NLT 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, 8 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’ Luke 11:39-40 NLT 39 Then the Lord said to him, "You Pharisees are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy--full of greed and wickedness! 40 Fools! Didn't God make the inside as well as the outside? Mat 23:13-15 NKJV 13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in [yourselves], nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. 14 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation. 15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves. Romans 6:1-6 ESV 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. < Back From Converts to Disciples Nathan Brosher Jul 5, 2026 Matthew 28:18-20 NLT - 18 Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." GO, Baptize, Teach, Obey 1. Conversion is the beginning, not the finish line. Luke 9:23 NLT - 23 Then he said to the crowd, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me . John 8:31-32 NLT - 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, "You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. " A Convert has believed; A Disciple follows and continues. 2. Entertainment produces spectators; Discipleship produces soldiers. 1Corinthians 13:11 NLT - 11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. We should always be growing/maturing in the things of God. 3. Immature believers are easily deceived. A church can be numerically large and spiritually immature. Hebrews 6:1-3 NLT - 1 So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely, we don't need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. 2 You don't need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding. Romans 5:17 NLT - 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. 4. Every Disciple is called to make Disciples. 2Timothy 2:1-2 NLT - 1 Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus. 2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. “The church doesn’t lose generations because the gospel loses power. The Church loses generations when discipleship is replaced with disciples consuming religious experiences.” - Jeff Walling, Director of YLI at Pepperdine University. Previous Next

< Back The Source of the Spirit Nathan Brosher Jul 1, 2026 1Corinthians 12:1-3 NLT - 1 Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don't want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. Behavioral Contradictions Divided Loyalties Mark 12:32-34 NLT - 32 The teacher of religious law replied, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. 33 And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law." 34 Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions. 1Corinthians 12:4-11 NLT - 4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. 1. The Source of the Gifts - Different gifts = Same Spirit - Different ministries = Same Lord - Different activities = Same God Gifts are received, not earned and are given by grace. Romans 5:17 NLT - 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. 1Co 12:29-30 NLT - 29 Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? 30 Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not! Spiritual Entitlement 2. The Purpose of the Gifts 1Corinthians 12:7 NLT - 7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. John Piper, Pastor/author - “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.” J.D. Greear, “You can gain all the spiritual gifts in the world, but if what you do does not flow out of a heart of love it is ultimately worthless to God.” Francis Chan, “The Holy Spirit is not a doctrine to study but a person to know.” Gifts flow from relationship with the Spirit, not merely understanding a list of gifts.
